POSITION SUMMARY:
Oversees and manages the Diagnostic Medical Sonography section within the Medical Imaging department, supervising section personnel. In addition to supervisory duties, actively performs the tasks of an Ultrasound Technologist.

EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Required:

  • Successful completion of a formal program in Ultrasound and certification with ARRT or ARDMS.
  • Extensive knowledge of ultrasound protocols, procedures, and techniques with 3-5 years of experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Proven organizational and communication skills along with leadership potential.
  • BCLS certification.

Preferred: In addition to the above, an Associate Degree in ultrasound technology or radiography, and RVT certification.

ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to apply age-appropriate communication and technical practices relevant to neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Competence in the use of equipment and the application of procedures must be shown before being permitted to work independently.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Supervises: Staff Ultrasound Technologists
Reports To: Radiologist(s) or Attending Physician(s) for clinical direction, and the Clinical Manager, Medical Imaging, for clinical, operational, and administrative matters.

ACCESS TO INFORMATION:
Demographic: Includes patient details such as name, date of birth, address, and medical record numbers.
Clinical: Encompasses admission charts, diagnoses, previous radiology reports, and other related information.
Organization: Pertains to department and organizational policies and procedures.
Knowledge-based: Provides access to Information Center reference resources and ongoing educational seminars.

As assigned, instructs students and other employees in the application of ultrasound procedures.
