Our client is a global technology organization and a leading player in the international defense and security market, is expanding its Electronics division in Ottawa, Ontario.

The Technical Project Manager will be responsible for executing key engineering projects, offering engineering leadership, project planning, execution, resource allocation, and managing risks and costs. Our ideal candidate, who is positive and proactive, will ensure that project deliverables and schedules are met.

Key Responsibilities:
The Technical Project Manager will lead a multi-disciplinary project team in close collaboration with the Head of Engineering and Head of Programmes, among other stakeholders.

  • Develop and manage project plans from inception to completion.
  • Be accountable for the cost, scheduling, and performance of the project to ensure timely, within scope, and within budget delivery.
  • Act as a liaison between management and the project team, ensuring all stakeholders receive timely and accurate project information and status updates.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with the customer and other project stakeholders.
  • Lead project activities, including review sessions with the customer to discuss costs, scheduling, and project performance.
  • Provide oversight on changes to requirements that impact project cost and schedule.
  • Identify and manage project risks and issues.
  • Detect and assess project issues and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer needs, eliminating barriers to success.
  • Ensure compliance with objectives, organizational policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Provide support in the preparation of proposals and bids.
  • Facilitate project meetings, including engineering lifecycle reviews.
  • Monitor project progress and implement changes where necessary.
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering activities from requirements development to development and testing.
  • Compile regular project reports to keep management and the customer informed of project status.
  • Assist in establishing organizational policies and procedures to support project capture, execution, and close-out.

Essential Skills:

  • 1-3 years of experience in a software, systems, or other relevant engineering discipline.
  • 1-3 years of experience in project management.
  • Recognized degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant combination of education and experience.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with engineers and specialists on a wide range of technical and operational topics.
  • Advanced proficiency with Project Management tools and techniques for both timeline and resource management (e.g., Microsoft Project).
  • Advanced skills in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Experience with subcontract management.
  • Knowledge and experience in the development, design, analysis, integration, and testing of mission-critical products.
  • Self-motivated leader and team player capable of working with minimal direction.
  • Ability to communicate complex and challenging issues with all stakeholders.
  • Proactive in detecting, analyzing, and resolving issues that impact the project.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in identifying, building, developing, and directly supervising a team of high-caliber engineering professionals, including systems, software, and test engineers.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification or willingness to obtain it.
  • Experience in the defense industry.
  • Strong technical expertise in multiple engineering fields.
  • Knowledge of RF design, Radar, or Electronic Warfare systems.
  • Familiarity with agile project management methodologies.

Security Clearance
Given the nature of our software development work, it is a condition of employment that the successful candidate receive the required security clearances. Successful candidates must be eligible for Controlled Goods Regulations Program (CGRP) government clearances and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) . In addition, candidates must be able to obtain a Canadian Industrial Security Clearance to NATO SECRET level.
