As a Senior Residential Law Clerk/Underwriter, your responsibilities will include assessing risks associated with deals and issuing Residential Title Insurance Policies for real estate transactions across Canada (excluding Quebec). Additionally, you will educate customers on the benefits of residential title insurance, due diligence requirements, title insurance coverages, exceptions to coverage, and endorsements. You will also provide guidance and support to law clerks on the Residential Underwriting Team.
Here’s How You’ll Contribute
- Evaluate lawyer’s title reports, due diligence, and searches to identify any title issues, determining title insurance coverage and risk, while prioritizing the Residential Underwriting phone queue.
- Review policy orders and communicate with external parties to detect fraudulent transactions by reaching out to the solicitor on record, lenders, and the insured, if necessary. Conduct sub-searches and utilize an identity authentication service when required.
- Provide customers with information regarding underwriting due diligence, Schedule B exceptions, endorsements, coverages, and procedures.
- Support the issuance of Managed Mortgage Solutions policies by examining title searches, commitments to insure, writ of execution searches, and surveys.
- Maintain a strong customer focus, fostering effective collaborative relationships with clients and communicating efficiently at all organizational levels.
- Offer guidance and support to team members to ensure deadlines are met.
Here’s What You’ll Bring
- A Law Clerk Diploma is advantageous.
- At least five (5) years of experience as a real estate law clerk in a law firm or a title insurance setting, dealing with residential real estate transactions.
- Strong technical knowledge of real estate law practices, an understanding of real estate transaction mechanics, and familiarity with Land Titles.
- Demonstrated professionalism and customer service orientation, coupled with excellent communication skills.
- Keen attention to detail while juggling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Proficiency in computer skills, particularly in the MS Office Suite.
